Being younger by at least a decade, Zene never understood her brother or his frustration for that matter, not until one night when he came home drunk and got into a fist fight with their father. Easton was fine in the end, having to stay in the hospital overnight to mend his bruised ribs and fix him up with a total of fifty stitches in his face, Jake was told to not come home until he'd faced up an apology that was genuine and proper. This left even more strain on Easton who was now worried about both of his children even more, it seemed the split wasn't fixing anything but causing more problems. While all of this was going on, Zene remained the same sweet but introverted and slightly reserved girl she always was, trying to help her father and other family members as much as she could made her have to grow up quickly. By the time Zene was attending school, she was also doing the cooking, cleaning, taking care of family members and pets alike, pretty much anything you could think of that didn't include driving her dad everywhere until much later.
The way this girl managed all of this work at home, school and a part time job on top of it busing tables at her father's restaraunts, it was a wonder she didn't have many friends and often spent all her "down time" illustrating, writing or listening to music. Really, it seemed like music was an escape for Zene who almost always had a pair of headphones on, even at work despite the number of times her dad has yelled at her about doing it. The time she didn't spend growing up only forced Zene to act a little more mature yet having child like episodes where she often couldn't control her emotions very well and didn't know how to handle it, this has been treated with plenty of therapy and medication over the years. Going into high school, it seemed as if people were more focused on title and what that dictates in the grand scheme of things, where Zene was labelled many things, amongst the most popular choices of geek, freak, lesbo, faggot, etc. It only made her more reserved, digging into books and wearing headphones while walking through the halls to avoid hearing the numerous shouts of abuse at her. Needless to say these years were the ones she tried to forget the most, a lot of her high school years are vague memories, she doesn't remember many people aside from maybe four out of the student body.
In high school wasn't really where she found her clique or any sort of group of people to hang out with, she was mostly a loner who liked doodling and reading books when she couldn't listen to her favorite music. This passed her time because naturally, she was pretty good at school and was generally reveered as being pretty intelligent, which was probably where the geek comments came flooding in. Regardless of the people she left in Montreal, Zene decided to move to New York after she graduated and made sure her family were well taken care of on a scholarship to attend school there for their art programs from her high school art teacher, who was probably the only adult she really felt inspiration from. The college years would generally be the better portion of her life, where she began to flourish and express herself more comfortably, people were suddenly less rude than before which initially was a bit jarring for Zene. Having been teased from everything to her eyebrows, her name to the way she dressed and even her interests, the fact she was able to find friends was astonishing and she fully embraced it. During this time Zene began a zine about feminism, art and music with a friend from college, she began experimenting with making music and writing more than just articles and blog posts.
Towards the end of college, Zene really wasn't sure what to do from there, so she moved back home temporarily, visiting with her father who ended up making up with her brother and while that wasn't necessarily on her to do list, she managed to have a few long conversations with him and they seemed to actually enjoy their first Christmas together it felt like. After the new year, Zene decided to pick up and move back to New York, back to Brooklyn where she had an offer to sell merch for a few tours lined up that year in play, she figured moving back where her real friends were made more sense than staying in Canada. As of currently, Zene is still writing and illustrating in the zine she made with her friend from college, she's always down to go on tour for a few weeks or months and as it turns out, she just can't stop dying her hair colors of the rainbow.
